Herd Tennis Drops Narrow Decision to Cardinals

MU took three singles contests
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Marshall University tennis team (1-2) dropped its match to the Louisville Cardinals (2-0) by the thinnest of margins, 4-3, on Friday in Louisville, Kentucky.
"We had our chances," Marshall tennis coach John Mercer said at the conclusion of the match. "It just came down to a couple of deuce points. Louisville has a good team this season."
After Madi Ballow and Sophia Hurrion dropped their doubles contest on court two, 6-2, Gabrielle Clairotte and Aisling McGrane defeated Chelsea Sawyer and Dina Chaika, 6-4, on court three to even the doubles portion. However, the Cardinals picked up the doubles point with a 6-4 victory on court one.
After falling on courts five and two to start singles, MU's Emma Vanderheyden picked up a convincing 6-1, 6-0, win on court one over Andrea Di Palma. UofL clinched the match with a victory on court six. The two sides decided to play out the rest of the matches with Madi Ballow defeating Chelsea Sawyer, who retired in the third set. Sophia Hurrion then took a three-set battle over Dina Chaika, 1-6, 6-4, 7-5, on court four.
