PRE-MATCH NOTES
With two matches remaining in the regular season, every point is crucial to make the 10-team Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Marshall enters Sunday's game with six points, placing the Herd on the edge of the qualification line. Wins equal three points while draws equal one point.
Marshall's dramatic comeback Thursday night at Coastal Carolina aided the team's postseason hopes. Trailing 2-0 with 15 minutes to play, senior Kat Gonzalez converted a penalty kick before sophomore Courtney Corcoran equalized in the 89th minute to secure a crucial road point.
Freshman goalkeeper Alexis Wolgemuth made six saves in Thursday's match, but none were bigger than her save on a clear header from Coastal in the 90th minute. Wolgemuth is second in the Sun Belt Conference with 4.78 saves per game.
Senior Morgan White created numerous chances in Thursday's draw. The Cincinnati native is third in the conference with 1.29 points per game.
Marshall faces Texas State for the first time in program history. The last time Marshall faced a team from the Lone Star State was in October of last year when UTSA visited Huntington.
ABOUT THE BOBCATS
Texas State are securely in the conference tournament, sitting third with 16 points in the tight Sun Belt West division. The Bobcats are 11-3-2 on the season, with a 5-2-1 record in Sun Belt play.
The Bobcats were picked fifth in the Sun Belt West preseason poll. With two matches remaining, head coach Steve Holeman's side are within striking distance of winning the west division's regular season title. Holeman is in his first year in San Marcos, but has been a head coach for the last 27 years, including stints at Ole Miss and University of Georgia.
Madi Goss leads the team with eight goals, which is tied with Marshall's White for second in the conference. Goss also leads the Bobcats with 19 points on the season.
Goalkeeper Katelyn Chrisman leads Texas State keepers with 10 wins and 48 saves. Her 1.29 goals against average is sixth best in the league.
