Herd Tennis Hits the Road for a Pair of Duals

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University tennis team (5-2) goes on the road to take on Furman Saturday and Virginia Tech on Sunday.

The Herd defeated the Dayton Flyers on Saturday, 6-1.

Sophia Hurrion and Gabrielle Clairotte started doubles by cruising to a 6-0 win over Sarah DeMarco and Neena Kataauskas on court three. Emma Vanderheyden and Liz Stefnacic sealed the doubles point for the Herd on court one with a 6-3 victory over Erica Wojcikierwicz and Laura Greb.

In singles, Marshall took five of the six matchups, all in straight sets, as Vanderheyden, Madi Ballow, Hurrion, Clairotte and Jutte Van Hansewyck all emerged victorious. Stefancic battled back after dropping the first set in her match, but fell in a super-tiebreak in the three-set battle.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: Furman
The Paladins 5-3 this season.

Ellie Schoppe has been named the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week in consecutive weeks.

Furman has two nationally-ranked singles players in Julia Adams and Sara Snyder, who are ranked 45th and 65th, respectively.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: Virginia Tech
The Hokies are 1-2 this season after dropping contests to Michigan State, 4-1, and Xavier, 4-3, last weekend.

Virginia Tech's victory came on Jan. 22 against ETSU 6-1.
