Last Time Out
Savannah Wheeler had a game-high 30 points as visiting Marshall outscored host Old Dominion by 12 in the fourth period to pull away for a 64-48 win at Chartway Arena in Norfolk Thursday evening.

The Monarchs dropped to 19-6 and 9-4 in the league.

Wheeler went 9-for-16 from the field, 3-for-7 from three-point range and a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line. Aaliyah Dunham continued her hot scoring streak with 15 points on 3-for-6 long range shooting to go with eight rebounds, her most in a Marshall uniform. CC Mays led the visitors with four assists and Brianah Ferby recorded three steals.

Ajah Wayne finished with 23 points (9-for-18 shooting) and eight rebounds to pace Old Dominion and Brianna Jackson added 10 points. Iggy Allen, who came into the game averaging 14.9 points per game, had a dreadful night. She finished 1-for-16 from the floor, 1-for-8 from distance and 1-for-4 from the free throw line.

With the score tied at 9-all, Marshall sandwiched three-pointers by Mays and Dunham around a Roper layup in just over 90 seconds to grab a 17-9 lead at the 3:18 mark of the first quarter. The advantage would stay at eight (22-14) at quarter's end.

The two teams battled fairly evenly in the second quarter and Marshall took a 35-25 lead into the locker room.

ODU came out roaring in the third quarter and ripped off the game's first 11 points of the second half, grabbing a one-point advantage (36-35) on a Wayne layup at the 6:30 mark. The Thundering Herd, though, wrested back control and held a 45-41 lead through three quarters.

This time, it was Marshall's turn to put together a big run. MU scored the first 10 points of the final stanza and built a lead it would not relinquish. The margin grew to as many as 19 (64-45) on a fast break layup by Colclough with 1:43 left.

Wheeler's scoring total on Thursday vaulted her past Cindy McCauley (1994-98) in both scoring and 3-pointers made in the school's all-time records. Wheeler (1,195) is now 11th in career points, eight shy of 10th-place Kristi Huff's (1988-92) total of 1,203.

Wheeler now has 132 three-pointers, and is now just three shy of sixth-place McKenzie Akers (2013-17) on that list.

The Thundering Herd led the game for 36 minutes, 50 seconds.

The Opponent
The 49ers come into Saturday's contest at 14-8 overall and 10-2 in Conference USA.

The team went 4-6 in non-conference play.

Octavia Jett-Wilson leads the team with 18 points per game, while KeKe McKinney paces Charlotte in rebounds (8.3) and blocks (2.0). Jada McMillian is the leader in assists (4.5) and Mikayla Boykin's 1.9 steals are best.

Molina Williams makes a team-high 47.6 percent of her field goal attempts, 36.7 percent from the three-point line and is 83.8 percent on free throws.

Charlotte leads the league in field goal percentage defense (36.1) and 3-point percentage defense (24.0), but is last in the league in rebounding defense (39.5).

The head coach is Cara Consuegra, who is in her 11th year at the helm of the 49ers.

In the all-time series between the two schools, Charlotte has won 15 of 17 meetings, including all eight in the Queen City.
