Herd took the doubles point
DENTON, Texas – The Marshall University tennis team (7-6) fell in its opening match of the weekend on Friday, 4-2, to the North Texas Mean Green (8-2) in Texas.
"I thought we did an excellent job pulling out the doubles point," Marshall tennis head coach John Mercer said. "However, it just came down to a couple no ad games in singles and we just could not convert enough to pull out three singles wins. It was nice to see Madi (Ballow) come home and pick up a solid singles victory."
The Herd picked up the doubles point with the duo of Emma Vanderheyden and Liz Stefancic taking their match on court one 6-4 over Jasmine Adams and Lucie Devier. Aisling McGrane and Gabrielle Clairotte defeated Kexuan Zhou and Maria Ponomareva on court three, 6-4, as the Herd headed into singles with the double point.
Dallas native Madi Ballow won the lone singles match for the Herd as she defeated Saki Oyama in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, on court three.
