Volleyball Welcomes Incoming Freshman Ciccarelli

Middle blocker from Italy to join team for 2022 season
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall volleyball head coach Ari Aganus announced the signing of Beatrice Ciccarelli. She is an incoming freshman who will join the team for the 2022 season.

"I am so excited to officially welcome Beatrice to our family," coach Aganus said. "She brings a wealth of power defensively, while being super agile, and having an elite volleyball IQ. Beatrice has been playing at a high international level for a long time and will help continue to elevate our program to the next level.

"On and off the court she's hard working, family oriented, and will add depth to the culture we continue to create day in and day out."

Ciccarelli is a middle blocker from Bologna, Italy.

"I chose Marshall because when I met the three volleyball coaches, they gave me a lot of familiarity and confidence," Ciccarelli said. "They told me about the friendly and helpful people at Marshall and the very creative and pleasant environment there. I can't wait to get to know them and my future teammates better and to be able to study and live within the structures that are there.

"Thanks to this scholarship, I was offered the opportunity to reconcile volleyball and study, but also to live in a different society from mine. With different people from whom I hope to learn a lot. I chose Marshall because they are giving me the opportunity to live my biggest dream and I can't wait to start this new adventure!"

Ciccarelli has been playing for nine years with clubs in Italy. Her most recent club team is VTB Bologna. The middle blocker has helped her team to be toward the top. In 2018, Ciccarelli was selected to represent her region, Emilia-Romagna, at the "Trophy of the Regions," a tournament for girls and boys under the age of 16 and her team came in fifth.

In 2019, her team finished eighth at the national youth championships. Before COVID hit in 2020, Ciccarelli's team was second classified in the series B2 Championship.

Ciccarelli attends Liceo Statale Laura Bassi and graduates this spring.
