First weekly honor for Plaziak
IRVING, Texas – Marshall men's golf graduate student Brad Plaziak was named Conference USA Men's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
It was the first weekly honor for Plaziak.
"Brad played some really solid golf this week in some really tough conditions," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "That second round 71 in those awful conditions was so impressive. Brad has worked so hard since he stepped on campus, and I am so happy for him to get some recognition for that hard work and dedication."
Plaziak participated in the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate, hosted at the Georgia Southern University Golf Course. He finished 14th overall (80+71+76=227). Through the difficult weather with rain, wind, and temperatures in the low 40s, Plaziak showed a major improvement in the second round with a 1-under 71. The Atlanta, Georgia, native was the only player out of the 45 golfers to break par on the first day. Plaziak shot up 20 spots on the leaderboard to tie for 10th after the second round.
Plaziak tallied seven birdies and one eagle throughout the two-day, three-round event. He competed against individuals from Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia Southern, Ohio State, Clemson, West Virginia, College of Charleston, WKU and East Tennessee State.
The Herd gets back into team competition at the Loyola Intercollegiate, Feb. 20-22, out in Goodyear, Arizona.
