Softball Drops Series Finale at WKU

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Marshal softball team lost the final game of the weekend series to the WKU Hilltoppers, 10-0, on Sunday. Next up for the Herd is a game at the Radford Highlanders on Wednesday, April 27, with first pitch at 6 p.m.
The Thundering Herd falls to 30-13 overall and 12-6 in Conference USA. The Hilltoppers improve to 30-9 overall and 13-5 in league action. WKU now leads the East Division standings and Marshall is second.
Redshirt junior Sydney Nester had the start in the circle and pitched into the third. She allowed five hits and six runs. Freshman Bub Feringa entered the game in the third and pitched into the fourth allowing five hits and four runs. Sophomore Brianna McCown faced the last three batters allowing one hit and striking out two.
The Herd bats struggled on Sunday recording just three hits. Fifth-year senior Aly Harrell had a base hit to right for the 210th hit of her career. She is ninth all-time. It was also Harrell's 50th hit of the season, a career-high. Senior Mya Stevenson had a single for her 47th hit of the year and 162nd of her career. Sophomore Autumn Owen had the other hit, her 40th of the season, and 128th of her collegiate career.
The Hilltoppers scored two runs in the first, then four in the third and four more in the fourth.
Following Marshall's game at Radford, the Herd returns to Dot Hicks Field for its final home games of the season. The UTEP Miners make the trip to Huntington for a three-game series, April 29-May 1, for Senior Weekend. The Herd will honor its seniors on Saturday on the field before the game. First pitch on Friday for game one is set for 1 p.m. First pitch of Senior Day on Saturday will also be 1 p.m. The series finale on Sunday is scheduled for a 12 p.m. first pitch.
