Herd safety selected with the 259th pick

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall safety Nazeeh Johnson was taken in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs with the 259th overall selection.

Johnson was an honorable mention All-Conference USA recipient last season, as he was the Thundering Herd's fifth-leading tackler with 67 stops (43 solo). He also posted five pass breakups, two interceptions and 1.5 tackles for loss.

Johnson earned second-team all-league honors in 2020 (59 tackles, two interceptions, two breakups in eight games) and claimed his first honorable mention selection in 2019 (88 tackles, six breakups).

The walkon-turned-defensive star had a spectacular pro day last month inside the Chris Cline Indoor Athletics Complex. He showcased a 40-yard time of 4.36 seconds and a 42-inch vertical leap for the scouts in attendance.

Johnson is also Marshall's first-ever player to be drafted by the Chiefs.
