Women’s Golf with Five Honored as WGCA All-American Scholars

Award given for a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or better

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Five members of the Marshall women's golf team were honored as Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars for maintaining a grade point average of 3.50 or better. Seniors Jackie Schmidt and Torren Kalaskey, junior Makena Rauch, and freshmen Katie Potter and Emily McLatchey earned the awards.
 
Schmidt earns the honor for the third time in her career. The Galt, California, native is also a four-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and a three-time recipient of the C-USA Academic Medal for a GPA of at least 3.75. This spring, Schmidt was recognized with the C-USA Spring Spirit of Service Award. In the 2021-22 season, Schmidt competed in all 10 events for the Herd and was the team's top finisher three times. In four years at Marshall, Schmidt competed in 27 tournaments, 75 total rounds, with one top 10 finish and six in the top 20.
 
Kalaskey has also earned multiple WGCA All-American Scholar recognitions. The Charleston, West Virginia, native is a four-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and a four-time recipient of the C-USA Academic Medal. This spring, Kalaskey was honored with the C-USA Jim Castaneda Postgraduate Scholarship. She also garnered the 2021 C-USA Spring Spirit of Service Award and was the 2020-21 President of the Student Athletes Association Committee (SAAC) for Marshall. This season, Kalaskey competed in seven events. In her four years at Marshall, she played in 15 tournaments with 44 total rounds.
 
Rauch earns her second-straight All-American Scholar award. The Moscow, Idaho, native is a three-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and three-time recipient of the C-USA Academic Medal. This past season, Rauch competed in a career-high eight tournaments and was the team's top finisher twice. Over three years at Marshall, she has competed in 15 events, played 44 total rounds with one top 10 finish.
 
Potter is already piling up the academic awards after just one year with the Herd. The South Lyon, Michigan, native was a member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and earned the C-USA Academic Medal along with her first WGCA All-American Scholar distinction. Potter competed in seven events as a freshman and was the top finisher for Marshall once at the River Landing Classic.
 
McLatchey is also racking up the academic awards after her freshman campaign. The Winter Park, Florida, native was a member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and was an Academic Medalist while picking up her first WGCA All-American Scholar award. McLatchey competed in seven events in her rookie season. She was the top finisher for the Herd at the First Coast Classic and had one top 20 finish.
