Volleyball Set to Host Marshall Invitational

There are changes to the tournament schedule

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall volleyball team starts the 2022 season by hosting the Marshall Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Cam Henderson Center. Evansville and Wright are also participating in the event.
 
SCHEDULE CHANGES
With South Carolina State unable to participate this weekend, the Herd will now take on Evansville at 6 p.m. on Friday evening, Wright State at Noon on Saturday and face Evansville again at 6 p.m. on Saturday night. The only neutral game for the event will be Evansville vs. Wright State at Noon on Friday.

Live stats will be provided for all four contests. Marshall's matches will be streamed on ESPN+.

Head coach Ari Aganus enters her fourth season at the helm of the Herd.
 
Marshall returns 10 student-athletes from last season's roster, Essence Clerkley, Olivia Fogo, Brynn Brown, Alayna Corwin, Meagan Camden, Megan Taylor, Macy McElhaney, Riley Winslow, Lydia Montague, and Eden McElhaney.
 
It welcomes nine newcomers to the squad, Bianca Giglio, Jazminn Parrish, Beatrice Ciccareli, Elli Barry, Kaitlyn Gehler, Kayla Malec, Bella Thompson, Regan Tinkle and Flora Sebestyen.
 
Macy McElhaney is the returning team leader in points per set (2.56) and kills (187).
 
On the defensive side, Lydia Montague had 95 blocks last season and averaged 1.10 per set. She was second in both statistics on the team in 2021 and is the leader among returners on the squad.

The Opponents
Evansville
The Purple Aces are coming off 21-12 season and were picked to finish second in the 2022 Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Poll, as voted on by the league's head coaches.
 
Alondra Vazquez and Melanie Feliciano earned 2022 MVC Preseason All-Conference Team.
 
Wright State
The Raiders were tabbed to finish third in the 2022 Horizon League Preseason Poll.
 
Wright State has four key returners on its roster, including three-time Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year Jenna Story. Callie Martin, Lainey Stephenson and Nyssa Baker all received all-conference second-team honors in 2021.
