Gehler Named SBC Defensive Player of the Week

First weekly award this season for the fifth-year senior
NEW ORLEANS – Marshall University volleyball fifth-year senior Kaitlyn Gehler was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, as announced by the league office.

Gehler turned in an impressive weekend for the Herd at the Miami Invitational, totaling 70 digs and 12 assists. The Herd went 2-1 on the week and claimed the tournament championship with Gehler earning all-tournament team accolades. She came up with 15 digs in a 3-0 win against Bellarmine on Friday morning before following that up with 25 digs in a five-set loss to Miami (OH) later that day. Gehler shined in a win against Middle Tennessee State on Saturday with a season-high 30 digs and six assists. She is currently the Sun Belt leader in digs per set at 5.82.

Marshall is back in action on Friday when it hosts the Marshall Invite. The Herd's first match of the tournament is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. against Charleston Southern in the Cam Henderson Center.
