First weekly award for the senior this season
NEW ORLEANS – Marshall University women's cross country senior Abby Herring has been named the Sun Belt Women's Runner of the Week on Wednesday as announced by the conference office.
Herring finished second overall at the Mike Baumer XC Classic last Friday with a 5K time of 17:23, which is the fastest time run in Marshall women's cross country history. Her previous cross country personal record was set at the 2021 Greater Louisville Classic, when she ran a 17:45. The senior from Parkersburg has been a four-year runner for the Thundering Herd, finishing as an Academic Medalist each of her first three years at Marshall.
"I'm so excited for Abby!" Head Coach Caleb Bowen said. "She has worked so hard this year and during last Friday's race she ran with such great confidence throughout the whole race. She beat some amazing athletes on Friday and I believe that she is just getting started. It's going to be a fun season!"
Herring and the Herd cross country teams return to action Friday, September 16th for the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational.
