Top defensive ranked Herd to meet league’s top offensive ranked foe
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall Thundering Herd's top-ranked scoring defense in the Sun Belt host Georgia Southern's top-ranked scoring offense Saturday at the Cam Henderson Center. The crucial game is the first game in a women's and men's basketball doubleheader Saturday in Huntington.

A ticket purchased for the women's game will allow entry to the both games Saturday. Additionally, kids aged 12 and under will receive free admission to both games. To validate free tickets, please purchase in person at the Cam Henderson Center box office.
The first 500 kids ages 12 and under will also receive a free book, courtesy of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

PREGAME NOTES
Saturday will represent a battle of styles. Marshall's defense ranks first in the Sun Belt in scoring defense, allowing just 56.9 points per game. Georgia Southern is not only first in the conference, but they are also second in the nation in scoring offense, averaging 89.4 points per game.
The magic number for the Herd is 70, four of Marshall's five losses have come when opponents have surpassed the 70-point threshold.
The Herd are first in the Sun Belt, making 7.6 three pointers per game. Sophomore Aarionna Redman made three triples on Thursday night against JMU, a new career-high.

ABOUT THE EAGLES
Georgia Southern enters the second week of the conference season having registered some impressive numbers. The Eagles lead the conference in assists per game (18.1), field goal percentage (46.5), free throw attempts per game (23.7), defensive rebounds per game (32.3), steals per game (14.2), turnovers forced per game (21.1), and perhaps most notable, scoring offense (89.4).
Georgia Southern were picked to finish seventh in the preseason poll. Junior guard Terran Ward was picked to the all-Sun Belt first team. Ward leads the Eagles in points per game (18.3), and rebounds per game (5.7).
The Eagles defeated Coastal Carolina Thursday night on the road, 81-75, to go 2-1 in Sun Belt play this season.
SERIES HISTORY
Marshall and Georgia Southern have met on 16 previous occasions as former Southern Conference foes, with the series tied at eight.
