Team ends tourney on a high note with best round of week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Marshall's Women's Golf team finished in 10th place at the UNCG Collegiate, which wrapped up on Tuesday at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The Thundering Herd ended the tournament on a high note with its best round of the week.
"I'm really proud of our girls for finishing strong," Marshall Women's Golf coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "We improved our score significantly from the first day and built some momentum for next week's tournament with the strong final round."
Marshall's final day score of 293 was 12 strokes better than its second round, which also completed earlier in the day on Tuesday after being delayed due to darkness on Monday.
The Herd collected itself well when the new round started and got some really strong efforts, led by freshman Kasey McIlvaine, who carded an Even par 72 that featured steady play throughout.
Emily McLatchey, who tied for 31st to lead the Herd in the individual standings, carded six birdies en route to a 1-over 73 that strengthened the team's position.
Olivia Kochan and Katie Potter each shrugged off tough rounds on the first day to finish with 2-over 74s that gave the Herd its best day of the tournament as a team at 5-over on the round.
Marshall returns to action on Monday when the team opens play at the Charlotte Invitational.
