PRE-GAME NOTES

Marshall's 7 p.m. contest against Georgia State will be seen on ESPN2, marking the fourth time in six games this season that the Thundering Herd will have its game on national television.

For Marshall, the focus shifts to Sun Belt Conference action after the Thundering Herd wrapped up non-conference play with a 48-41 loss at N.C. State last weekend in Raleigh, North Carolina.

It was Marshall's first loss in 342 days as the Herd saw its nine-game winning streak snapped.

After winning just four games all of last season, Georgia State comes into Saturday's Homecoming contest at Center Parc Stadium with a 4-1 record, including a 1-1 mark in SBC play.

ABOUT MARSHALL

Marshall comes in off its first loss in nearly a full calendar year, but the offense has gotten rolling as of late with quarterback Cam Fancher taking another step with the offense.

Fancher accounted for four touchdowns – two passing, two rushing – in the loss at N.C. State and has averaged 360 all-purpose yards (296.5 passing, 63.5 rushing) in his last two games (N.C. State and ODU).

On the defensive end, Marshall continues to force turnovers in the secondary with the Thundering Herd hauling in three more interceptions against the Wolfpack.

J.J. Roberts registered his second interception in as many games, Josh Moten returned an interception 27 yards for an early touchdown and Dyoni Hill led the team in tackles with eight while also registering his first career interception in his first extended action with the Herd in Raleigh.

ABOUT GEORGIA STATE

Georgia State is off to its best start in program history at 4-1 and hopes to improve on that in front of a Homecoming crowd at Center Parc Stadium on Saturday night.

The Panthers are coming off a bye week, but suffered their first loss of the season – a 28-7 loss to Troy – on Sept. 30.

Georgia State is led by quarterback Darren Grainger who is second in the Sun Belt in total offense at 295.0 yards per game. He has completed 69 percent of his throws and has 1,187 passing yards and seven touchdowns while also adding three more scores on the ground.

Grainger's top target is wide receiver Robert Lewis, who has caught 26 passes for 500 yards and five touchdowns. Those numbers led Lewis to being added to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List this week.

The Georgia State rushing attack is also bolstered by running back Marcus Carroll, who is No. 4 in FBS in rushing at 116.6 yards per game. He and Marshall running back Rasheen Ali are both tied for second in rushing touchdowns with nine on the season.
