HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Athletics is proud to announce the dedication ceremony of the Scaggs Family Practice Facility at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19 at Cam Henderson Center.

The event, which is open to the public, celebrates the contributions made by Wyatt & Kristi Scaggs and the entire Scaggs Family, who have been dedicated ambassadors to Marshall Athletics for decades.

"Never underestimate the impact one family can have on the future of Marshall Athletics and the student-athletes we serve and support," said Christian Spears, Marshall's Director of Athletics. "We extend our deepest gratitude to the entire Scaggs Family for their generational impact and their transformational gift."

Thursday's ceremony will start at 5 p.m. down on the main floor of the Cam Henderson Center basketball court where those attending will start their walk through the new Champions Pathway to the Scaggs Family Practice Facility, located in Gullickson Hall.

"The Scaggs Family, from Logan, W.Va., have made it possible for the Herd to have a long-needed practice facility by upgrading every aspect of Gullickson Gym and the pathway from the Henderson Center to the Scaggs Family Practice Facility" said John Sutherland, Senior Associate Athletic Director and Executive Director for the Big Green. "Our former players will be amazed when they walk through these doors."

That walk leads patrons past Marshall's Men's Basketball locker room and down the newly-renovated Champions Pathway that not only highlights Marshall Athletics' accomplishments, but provides an insight into the vision of Marshall Athletics by showcasing the different core principles that help spell out "THE HERD WAY!"

Once at the Scaggs Family Practice Facility, those in attendance will see the complete renovation of the indoor practice facility, which has combined state-of-the-art technologies along with a beautification process that provides a source of pride for the programs utilizing the facility for years to come.

"The legacy of this donation is still being written and when that story is complete, it is going to be one heck of a read," Spears said. "On behalf of our entire student-athlete community, on behalf of the community agencies and clubs, as well as all the future Marshall students who will all utilize and benefit from the Scaggs Family Practice Facility, we thank you!"

"We are thrilled to be dedicating a state-of-the-art practice facility for our basketball and volleyball teams, and even more thrilled to have it dedicated to one of Marshall University's first families," Sutherland said. "We can't thank Wyatt and Kristi enough for what they have done and for allowing us to name the court 'Neal and Jo Ann Scaggs Court' in honor of Wyatt's parents."

The Scaggs Family Practice Facility is part of the 'All M' Campaign – Marshall University's $70 million capital campaign aimed at provided enhancements to all 18 athletics programs sponsored by the university.

Light refreshments will be provided at the event, which is expected to last around 45 minutes. Media members are also encouraged to attend.

The event precedes Marshall's 7 p.m. nationally-televised football game against James Madison at Joan C. Edwards Stadium, which will be shown on ESPN. Patrons are encouraged to attend the football contest following the dedication.
