LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Marshall University tennis team began action at the ITA Atlantic Regional Thursday in Lynchburg, Virginia, with Sophia Hurrion and Emma Vanderheyden each winning a pair of matches to reach the main draw in singles.
"It was great to have Sophia and Emma reach the main draw with JoJo (Strom)," Herd tennis head coach John Mercer said. "Overall, we played well and improved as the day went along."
Hurrion took her first-round match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, over Loyola's Liza Tankimovich before taking her second-round contest in a super-tiebreak, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (8) to reach the main draw over Liberty's Tiffany Nguyen.
Vanderheyden captured both of her matches in straight sets with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Radford's Brooke Murphy before defeating Morgan Coburn of Georgetown 6-2, 6-4.
