Vanderheyden Highlights Day Two of ITA Atlantic Regional with Ranked Win

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Junior Emma Vanderheyden highlighted day two of the ITA Atlantic Regional in Lynchburg, Virginia, for Marshall Tennis with a singles victory over No. 39 Ozlem Uslu of Virginia Tech, who was the second seed at the event.
"It was a great win for Emma," Herd tennis head coach John Mercer said after Vanderheyden's big victory. "She was focused from beginning to end and it was probably the best match I've seen her play. We're looking forward to singles and doubles play tomorrow."
Vanderheyden defeated Uslu in the round of 64 in main draw singles with a straight-sets triumph 6-2, 7-5, to advance to the round of 32.
Sophia Hurrion also moved on to the round of 32 with a 6-4, 6-2, victory over Georgetown's Katie Gatofolo-Ro.
Seeded ninth in doubles, Hurrion paired up with Aisling McGrane to win 8-2 over James Madison's Daria Munteanu and Ines Oliveira, 8-2.
Vanderheyden and Strom fell in a closely contested doubles contest with Penn State's Sofia Chekhlystova and Jordina Cegarra Ramirez in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (6).
