Herd Volleyball Drops Contest in Four Sets to Troy

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University volleyball team (10-10, 2-4 Sun Belt) dropped its final contest of the week to the Troy Trojans (8-8, 6-0 Sun Belt) in four sets (25-21, 21-25, 25-12, 25-22) Saturday afternoon at the Cam Henderson Center.

Brynn Brown finished the contest with 22 assists and 12 kills for a double-double as Kyle Stokes also tied Brown with 12 kills. Peyton Neal recorded a match-high 16 digs.

The first set saw the score tied six times and three lead changes, but Troy captured the opener from Marshall 25-21.

With the scoreboard tied 19-19 late in the second set, The Herd took six of the final eight points in the frame with a Brown kill sealing it 25-21 for the home side. MU finished 13 of its 31 attacks in the set with just two errors for a .355 hitting percentage.

The Trojans answered by taking the third set 25-12 and Marshall fought until the end in the fourth, but Troy sealed the match with a 25-22 victory in the final set.

Marshall goes back on the road for a pair of contests at Georgia Southern next Friday and Saturday in Statesboro, Georgia.
