Hurricane standout adds to the local flavor of roster
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Women's Golf coach Brooke Burkhammer announced the signing of Savannah Hawkins to the Thundering Herd's Class of 2024.
Hawkins comes to Marshall from Hurricane High School where she has been a fixture among the leaderboards of events across West Virginia and beyond throughout her prep career.
"We're excited to have Savannah join our program," Burkhammer said. "She's a great fit with our team and we're glad she's staying home with the Herd!"
Hawkins earned the title at the 2023 WVSSAC Girls Golf Invitational in September, carding a 2-under 70 at Mingo Bottom Golf Club to earn the title.
One of Hawkins' biggest successes in the victory came on the par-5s, which she played to 3-under par. It was her second consecutive victory in the event, also earning the title in 2022.
Hawkins earned a T-3 finish the 100th W.Va. Women's Amateur where she competed with several of her future Marshall teammates at Edgewood Country Club in Sissonville.
The talented Hurricane product also earned a third-place finish in the Class AAA Individual portion of the WVSSAC Golf State Championships as she took on the best golfers – male and female – in the state.
