Marshall Wins Fourth-Straight in 84-77 Win Over Elon

ELON, N.C. – The Marshall women's basketball team (6-4) won its fourth-straight Sunday afternoon in an 84-77 win on the road against Elon (2-9).
The Herd used a 30-15 third quarter surge to erase what was a three-point halftime deficit into a double-digit advantage. Coach Kim Caldwell's team led by as much as 18 in the fourth before holding on to the road victory.
"I didn't love the way we closed the game, being up 18 with about six minutes to go, and kind of crumbled at the end, but those are the things you need sometimes," Caldwell said. "Got another win on the road, shot a lot better on the road so that is good. So it was a good little trip, ready to get home."

The team shot 55 percent in the third, including a blistering 7-of-9 from behind the three-point line. Abby Beeman made three of the team's triples in the third. The senior led all scorers with 24 points and eight assists. The Ridgeley, W.Va. native made a season-high five 3-pointers.
Sophomores Meredith Maier and Sydni Scott also connected from behind the arc on multiple occasions in the decisive third. Scott made her first start of the season for MU Sunday.
The Herd - who leads the country in steals per game entering Sunday - forced 20 turnovers, including 11 steals.
UP NEXT
The Herd will return to central North Carolina to close out non-conference play against Wake Forest. Tip-time will be at noon from Winston-Salem Thursday, Dec. 21.
