HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Following a rigorous non-conference slate, Marshall's women's basketball team (6-5) opens Sun Belt Conference play at Reed Green Coliseum in Hattiesburg, Mississippi against Southern Miss (7-3).

COACH KIM CALDWELL
- On March 27, 2023, the Coach Kim Caldwell era began for the Marshall University women's basketball program. Caldwell became the eighth head coach in the history of the Herd.
- Caldwell - the Parkersburg, West Virginia native - joins Marshall from Division II Glenville State, where she turned the Pioneers into a powerhouse, going 191-24 in seven seasons, winning the 2022 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship.
PRE-GAME NOTES
- The Marshall Thundering Herd finished non-conference play 6-5, with a marquee win over Florida.
- The Herd's turnover margin was crucial to the team's success, with MU posting 25.40 forced turnovers per game - a number second-best nationally.
- Senior guard Abby Beeman leads the team in PPG (17.4), rebounds per game (6.4), and assists per game (5.9).
- Marshall and Southern Miss have a long history, with the Herd most recently winning a one-point game in the Cam Henderson Center last January. USM leads the all-time series, 16-12.

ABOUT SOUTHERN MISS
- The name synonymous with Southern Miss women's basketball is long-time head coach Joye Lee-McNelis. The USM Alumni has been head of the Golden Eagles for 20 years, winning over 300 games in Hattiesburg.
- On the court, the Golden Eagles are led by Sun Belt Conference Preseason Player of the Year Domonique Davis. The senior guard is averaging 21.0 PPG, which is in the top-25 in the nation.
- USM was picked third in the Sun Belt Coaches Preseason Poll. The Golden Eagles clinched a share of the SBC Regular Season title in 2022-23.
