HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall's women's basketball saw its winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon at Cam Henderson Center.

The Thundering Herd led into the fourth quarter, but Texas State made a few plays late to hand Marshall a 64-60 loss in front of 922 fans at Cam Henderson Center.

"There's a reason they were picked high and you can see that," Marshall head coach Tony Kemper said. "They were seasoned, they played together and they did well at the end. They stuck a big 3-pointer when they needed it. I thought our team was tough again and, at some point, maybe those plays dry up that you just find a way to get in. We had a couple chances to get us one that didn't quite go our way tonight."

Marshall (15-10, 8-6 SBC) led by six midway through the fourth quarter before Texas State went on a run to retake the lead.

Roshala Scott followed with a tough basket in the paint to give the Thundering Herd a 58-57 lead with 2:42 left, but it would be Marshall's last lead of the contest.

Scott, who led all scorers with 19 points, followed with a layup to tie the game at 60-all, but Texas State – who came into the game as the Sun Belt's top free throw shooting team – hit six of eight at the line in the final two minutes, which sealed the road win.

Free throw shooting loomed large in the outcome. While Texas State (18-7, 10-4 SBC) made the most of opportunities late, Marshall struggled throughout, connecting on just 7 of 15 free throw attempts in the loss.

"We've got to make free throws," Kemper said. "We were pretty poor from the foul line."

In addition to Scott's 19, Marshall got 12 points and seven rebounds from Abby Beeman while Sydni Scott came off the bench to knock down three 3-pointers to finish with 11.

Marshall returns to action on Thursday as the Thundering Herd women travel to Statesboro, Georgia, to take on Georgia Southern in a 6 p.m. contest.
