HUNTINGTON, W.Va – The Marshall's women's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker at home to Old Dominion, 66-63.
It is the Herd's third consecutive one possession loss.
"Obviously another tough one for us," Marshall head coach Tony Kemper said. "That's three in a row by one possession, and Texas State was close too. Four, one, two, three-point losses, that is tough on them."
In a game that saw 14 lead changes, it was Marshall who led with 3:42 remaining following a Kia Sivils floater. Sivils was one of three seniors honored Wednesday evening, alongside Kendall Miller and Shanniah Wright.
A pair of three-pointers from the Monarchs surrounded a pair of Mahogany Matthews free throws to push the visitors in front with under a minute to play.
"I thought they made timely shots," Kemper said. "[Makayla] Dickens made a big three off an in-bounds play to put them back in front, and then the one to put them up four later was a huge shot."
Roshala Scott hit her final field goal of the game to bring the Herd to within two with under 15 seconds remaining, but the Monarchs trimmed away the clock and split a pair from the line on the ensuing possession to set up a more contested three from Roshala to end the contest.
Roshala Scott led all scorers with 25 points on 9-16 shooting.
The Herd led by one after the first, and by seven at the half. ODU dominated the glass in the second half, outrebounding Marshall, 26-9 in the third and fourth.
Marshall closes out the regular season at 5 p.m. on Friday on the road against James Madison.
