Women’s Basketball Opens Sun Belt Championship Wednesday

Herd and Chanticleers open the second round at 12:30 p.m. ET Wednesday
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall women's basketball team opens the second round of the 2023 Sun Belt Women's Basketball Championship against Coastal Carolina in the 8/9 matchup Wednesday.
Marshall head coach Tony Kemper and the team are looking forward to entering the program's first SBC Tournament.
"Our team is excited about the opportunity," Kemper said. "Yet I think they understand that every game is going to be really difficult. Our games in the regular season against Coastal were tough, tight games. It is two teams that do not make a lot of mistakes and play hard. It will be fun tomorrow!"

PREGAME NOTES
- Junior Roshala Scott earned 2023 all-Sun Belt Conference Second Team honors Monday. Scott leads the league with 196 made field goals this season.
- Junior Abby Beeman finished as the league's leader in minutes per game played (35.4). Beeman was second in assists (154) and assists per game (5.3).
- Fitting for the 8/9 matchup, MU and CCU split the regular season series with two games settled by a combined nine points. Coastal won the first matchup in Conway, 65-61, before Marshall won the more recent contest in Huntington, 65-60.
- The winner of Wednesday's second round matchup faces top-seeded JMU in Friday's quarterfinal at 12:30 p.m./11:30 a.m. CT.

ABOUT THE CHANTICLEERS
Coastal Carolina enters the Sun Belt Basketball Championship as the ninth-seeded team in the bracket. Like the Herd, the Chanticleers are 9-9 in conference play. First year head coach Kevin Pederson's team finished the regular season 14-15 overall.
The Chanticleers are led by forward Aja Blount, who leads the team with 17.2 points per game and 5.6 boards per game. The Northampton, Pa. native scored 18 points in both of the regular season games between the two sides.
