Marshall Softball Welcomes #14 Alabama to Huntington Tuesday

First time a ranked opponent visits Marshall in over four years
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall Thundering Herd softball team, currently second in the Sun Belt Conference standings with an 11-2 league record, and a 36-5 mark overall, faces the No. 14-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide (32-12, 9-6 SEC).
It will be Marshall softball's 12th meeting against a ranked opponent at home, and its first since Kentucky came to Dot Hicks Field on March 20th, 2019. Tuesday will also mark the first trip to Huntington by an SEC school outside of the Wildcats.

PREGAME NOTES
- Marshall is led by fifth-year head coach Megan Smith Lyon, who earned her 150th win as manager of the Herd on Saturday, becoming the fastest skipper to do so in program history.
- Marshall softball has knocked down program record after record in 2023, being the fastest to 20, 25, and 30 wins. The team's 23-game winning streak that spanned more than a month was the longest in the 30-year history of the program.
- Redshirt-senior Sydney Nester earned her 20th win in the circle Sunday. She is one of five pitchers in program history to have multiple 20+ win seasons.Â
- Junior Autumn Owen has led the MU offense with 16 home runs, and 60 RBI this season. Her 60 runs batted in are tied for the most in program history.

ABOUT THE CRIMSON TIDE
- Alabama is coached by Patrick Murphy, who is in his 25th season in Tuscaloosa, compiling a record of 1,222-344-4, Under Murphy, the Tide has won the 2012 National Championship, and added 12 Women's College World Series berths, six SEC regular season titles, four SEC Tournament titles and 23-straight NCAA Tournament bids.
- Graduate senior pitcher Montana Fouts is a native of Grayson, Ky. and celebrating a Homecoming in Huntington on Tuesday. Fouts has earned her share of accolades, including being named the 2021 NFCA Pitcher of the Year. In 2023, Fouts is 17-6 with a 1.46 ERA, leading the country with 232 strikeouts. .
- Leading Alabama offensively is freshman infielder Kenleigh Cahalan. The Tuscaloosa native is batting .331, starting in all 44 games the team has played this season.
