BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. –
Marshall's Tyler Jones shot a pair of solid rounds on Monday to sit in a tie for seventh place following his first two rounds of the Mountaineer Invitational at Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, W.Va.

Jones fired a 73 and followed it up with a 74 to finish at a total of 3-over for his first two rounds. That puts him five shots out of the lead heading into the final day of action.

"It was cold and windy today and the guys fought hard and showed a ton of grit today," Marshall men's golf coach Matt Grobe said. "Tyler played great all day long and looks really good right now."

As a team, Marshall sits in sixth place overall, but is second among teams who fully completed two round of action, trailing only VCU, who was five strokes better in the second round after both were tied following the first.

Jones was also second among players who finished both rounds on Monday, trailing only VCU's Clemente Silva for the clubhouse lead after two rounds of action.

Marshall's Kyle Mitchell, who is competing as an individualist, was still on the course for his second round when play was halted due to darkness on a day when conditions were a stark contrast to the nice weather of recent weeks.

"I was really pleased with the way the guys responded today to some adverse conditions," Grobe said.

One of the event's better turnarounds came from Marshall's Christian Boyd, who had the best turnaround of any golfer to complete two rounds of action. After a tough first round, Boyd regained his composure and fired a 74 in round two that included five birdies.

Golfers who haven't completed their second round will resume on Tuesday morning, then proceed to start final round action.

Teams who have completed their second round will start the third round at 10 a.m. on Hole Nos. 1 and 10 with the same pairings as the first round.

This means Marshall's contingent will be taking off from Hole No. 10 for Tuesday's final round.
