Herd senior earns Third Team honors after three Top-10s this spring
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall senior golfer Tyler Jones was named as a Third-Team All-Sun Belt Conference selection, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The honor comes after Jones had three Top-10 finishes during the spring season for the Thundering Herd.
"What a great honor for Tyler!" Marshall head coach Matt Grobe said. "He had a wonderful year and it was so much fun to watch him play great golf this year. He is a leader on and off the course. He makes everyone around him better and his teammates think the world of him. We are so happy for Tyler!"
Jones' Top-10 finishes included a T-6 finish at the Loyola Intercollegiate, a T-7 finish at the ECU Intercollegiate and a T-10 finish at the Sea Palms Invitational.
The Westerville, Ohio, native earned the Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Week award on March 3 after his performance at the Loyola Intercollegiate in which he fired a final round 67 to finish in a tie for 6th. That round set his season-best at the time.
After a T-7 finish at the ECU Intercollegiate, Jones matched his season-best round twice at the Sea Palms Invitational, shooting an opening round 67 before returning the favor in the final round for his third Top-10 finish of spring.
The strong spring season followed a fall season in which he recorded two victories – the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invite and the Dayton Flyer Invitational.
Jones led Marshall with a 71.76 scoring average in rounds this year while also featuring a career average of 72.44, which is tops all-time in Marshall history. He also leads Marshall in rounds of par or better for a career.
