Herd posts one of top final rounds amongst all participants in final day at Palm Valley
GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Marshall Men's Golf closed its first tournament of the Spring 2026 in resounding fashion, notching one of the best final rounds amongst tournament participants with a 6-under as a team at the Loyola Intercollegiate.
Marshall's Wes Lorish, Cameron Jarvis and Tanner Vest all shot 2-under 70s on the day while Cael Ropietski added an Even-par 72 for the Herd's team total.
Lorish led the day's birdie count with five while Vest had four of his own. Jarvis had three birdies and a nearly-flawless round with only one bogey on the day. Jackson Woodburn also had an eagle on the par-5 11th hole – a hole that four of five Marshall competitors scored below par on during Tuesday's final round.
The Herd's final-round improvement of 11 strokes from Round 2 was the biggest jump of any of the 20 competing teams in the Loyola Intercollegiate field.
"This was a really good start to the spring for us," Marshall Men's Golf coach Matt Grobe said. "The guys did a great job of improving every day. The conditions were tough today, but they stayed patient and played really solid to shoot 6-under. Cameron, Tanner and Wes shot impressive 2-under rounds today and Cael was Even-par yesterday and today. Jackson played solid all week and had our lone eagle."
Marshall showed marked improvement throughout each day of the tournament, bettering their team scores by 10 strokes from the previous day in each of the final two rounds.
For Jarvis, it continued a string of good golf in which he had just three bogeys in his final 35 holes of action. He overcame a first-hole triple-bogey in his second round with five birdies to finish at Even on Monday, then came back with three birdies and 14 pars on Tuesday to wrap up the event.
Ropietski's consistency continued over the final two rounds as he carded consecutive Even-par 72s.
Lorish led the way for the Herd with 11 birdies on the week.
Marshall now will take some time off prior to the Sea Palms Invitational, which is scheduled for March 12-14 at St. Simons Island, Ga.
