Herd softball earns 900th program win; record 41st regular season win.
STATESBORO, Ga. — The Marshall softball team (41-9, 15-5 SBC) earned its 900th win as a program Thursday night with a shutout victory over Georgia Southern, 4-0.
"It is an honor to be a part of the program with such a strong tradition that Marshall University softball has," Head Coach Megan Smith Lyon said. "We are lucky to have the opportunity to continue the tradition for the program and we are honored to be here at this special University."
The team's 41st win of the year marks the most regular season wins in the program's 30-year history.
Pitcher Sydney Nester was dominant, throwing a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits - all infield hits - with five strikeouts. Nester has earned her 24th win of the year, a number tied for the league's lead.
Nester received her support in the 4th with a two-out RBI double from Camryn Michallas to score Rielly Lucas. Both Michallas and Lucas would score an inning later on a Bub Feringa RBI hit up the middle.
Nester finished off the Eagles in style, retiring the final eight batters she faced to seal her 10th shutout of the season.
