HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall volleyball head coach Ari Aganus announced the hiring of Kaitlyn Gehler as the program's new Director of Volleyball Operations on Monday.

"I want to start by thanking Christian Spears and Debra Boughton for bringing this position to life," Aganus said. "This is a huge step for our program to add a director of operations so that we can continue to provide our amazing student-athletes with the best experience possible. With the addition of Kaitlyn, it speaks volumes of the experience our students and student-athletes have here at Marshall. She chose to spend her last year of eligibility with us and, within that year, realized that this is home. It's a testament to everyone who is part of the Marshall family."

The announcement keeps Gehler in Huntington where she wrapped up her playing career with the Thundering Herd following the 2022 season.

"As a proud alum of this volleyball program, I feel honored and incredibly excited to now be a part of our staff," Gehler said. "When I committed to playing volleyball here for my final year, I said I wanted to be ready for life after volleyball. Now, volleyball doesn't have to stop. I couldn't be more ready to hit the ground running with our coaching staff. They've been great role models for me since the beginning."

During the 2022 season, Gehler was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 6 after registering a season-high 30 digs in a Sept. 3 match against Middle Tennessee.

Gehler led Marshall with 409 digs and added 93 assists during the 2022 season.

In addition to her knowledge of volleyball, Gehler brings a passion and positive energy that resonates with those around her.

"Kaitlyn bleeds green and blew all of us out of the water during the hiring process," Aganus said. "She's extremely hard-working, loyal and ready to be part of taking Marshall Volleyball to the next level."

Gehler's energy was often seen at various Marshall events as she supported all of Marshall's athletics programs.

"I love the university, athletic department and our volleyball team very much," Gehler said. "I'm so happy to stay in Huntington and continue growing the sport."

Prior to her lone season at Marshall, Gehler played libero at Wyoming and Memphis where she spent two seasons each.

Gehler is a native of Waterloo, Wisc., where she starred at Lakeside Lutheran High School.
