Bell, Duggan Named 2023 Preseason All-SBC

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall men's soccer senior Morris Duggan and sophomore Matthew Bell were named to the 2023 Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Team, as announced by the league office on Monday. The Herd was picked to finish second in the conference's pre-season poll receiving a pair of first-place votes and finishing behind pre-season favorites Kentucky by two points.

"Pre-season polls are always interesting," Marshall men's soccer head coach Chris Grassie said. "We have work to do to continue to improve, but as always, our goal is to win the conference. We want to play better in each match, growing our effort and performance from match to match. I don't put too much stock in pre-season polls, but it gives us good motivation to finish higher than we were selected, and for our guys to let their football do the talking over the season to be among the awards and trophies at the end of the season. We certainly have a team capable of winning things this year, and individuals capable of having seasons which get them on the All-America teams."

Bell was the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year and was named first-team all-conference last season. The Kingston, Jamaica, native started all 19 of the Herd's matches and tallied 10 goals to finish tied for second in the SBC on a conference-high 25 shots on goal. Bell racked up 24 points, second most in the Sun Belt.

Duggan started all 19 of the Herd's matches last season, playing 1,558 minutes, in his first season in Huntington. He tallied one goal on 11 shots, including three shots on goal with his goal coming against Georgia Southern (Oct. 23). Duggan helped steady a defensive backline that allowed just 14 goals in 19 games with six shutouts.
