HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The 2023 regular season gets underway Thursday when the Marshall women's soccer team travels down Interstate-64 to face the Morehead State Eagles.

PRE-MATCH NOTES

  • Marshall enters the 2023 season under fourth-year head coach, Michael Swan. Swan, the Newcastle, England native, has a coaching record of 148-109-24.
  • A number of returning players from 2022 will be in action Thursday, including forward Abi Hugh. The Huntington native has logged over 3,700 minutes in her Marshall career. 
  • Makai Laguines is a sophomore from Warner Robins, Georgia. Laguines scored three goals and tallied four assists as a freshman for the Herd last season.
  • Other second-year players assist the Herd defensively, including defender Regina Fiabema and goalkeeper Alexis Wolgemuth. Wolgemuth made 57 saves in goal as a freshman a season ago.

ABOUT THE EAGLES

  • Leading Morehead State is second-year head coach Chris Fox. Fox led the Eagles to a 7-7-4 season in 2022.
  • The Eagles were picked third in the Ohio Valley Conference preseason poll. Goalkeeper Erin Gibbs was named a Player to Watch on the OVC preseason list, after posting five shutouts in 2022.
  • Senior Hadley Cytron returns in 2023 after leading MSU with 12 points (Four goals, four assists).
