Marshall Soccer Programs Named Team Academic Award Winners by United Soccer Coaches

Marshall University one of 182 schools to feature both men’s and women’s programs.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The United Soccer Coaches announced the College Team Academic Award winners, with both of Marshall University's soccer programs being among the national award recipients.
"It's super exciting for the soccer program to have their academic performance recognized with this award," Assistant Director for Academic Services Ryan Signorino said. "We have so many different majors represented on the team, and it's a testament to the student-athletes' hard work, motivation and ability to juggle their athletic and academic demands. We're always looking to improve as well, so using last year's GPA as a benchmark gives us a goal to aim for even better grades this coming school year."
Of the 811 teams across the country awarded for having a team GPA of 3.0 or higher, just 182 schools had both their men's and women's programs recognized, with Marshall University being one of the awarded schools.
"Our players take a lot of pride in their academic field of study, they have lofty goals for their careers and our job is to help them reach those goals." Head Women's Soccer Coach Michael Swan said. "Our academic staff should be commended for the work they do for our student athletes. I'm very proud of the standards we've set in the classroom."
"Excellent work in the classroom from our guys," Head Men's Soccer Coach Chris Grassie said. "They should be, and are, striving for excellence in everything they do. A huge thank you to our academic advisor, Ryan Signorino for all the work he puts in to make sure our guys have the schedules and resources to succeed. Also, Rafa Simoes, on our staff, who helps coordinate all of that with Ryan. Good work all round!"
