Marshall’s goalkeeper leads all NCAA DI goalkeepers who have yet to allow a goal in saves this season with 14

NEW ORLEANS – Marshall sophomore goalkeeper Alexis Wolgemuth has been named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

Wolgemuth leads all NCAA Division I goalkeepers who have yet to allow a goal in saves this season with 14. Wolgemuth is one of 21 goalkeepers in the NCAA who have registered multiple shutouts to open the 2023 season.

"What a fantastic start to the season for Alexis and our defensive unit," Marshall Head Coach Michael Swan said. "She has got a very high ceiling and we do not think she's reached her potential yet."

The Lincolnton, North Carolina native took over the starting role in 2022 as a freshman. She registered 57 saves last season, with a 1.64 goals against average, the best by a qualifying Marshall keeper since 2016.

Wolgemuth and the Herd face Indiana State Thursday at 8 p.m. The match will feature two of the four keepers in NCAA Division I with more than 10 saves without allowing a goal this season.  ISU's Maddie Alexander has 12 saves behind Wolgemuth's 14.
