DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Marshall University volleyball team (2-1) completed action at the Bash at the Beach with a second sweep of Bethune-Cookman (25-18, 25-11, 25-13) on Saturday.
Lydia Montague and Jazminn Parrish were named to the all-tournament team at the conclusion of the tournament.
I'm really proud of our program and how we competed at Bethune this weekend," Herd volleyball head coach Ari Aganus said. "First weekend and pre-season in general are about finally playing someone other than yourself and working out the kinks. Our last match we kept our unforced errors to a minimum and worked hard offensively. We need to continue to get better on the serve and pass game and get our block going, but overall, very happy coming off of the weekend 2-1. Super excited to get back in the gym and prep for Morehead and our home tournament."
Bria Samilton and Sarah Wadsworth each had a match-high 10 digs as Brynn Brown led both sides with 24 assists and seven kills. Lydia Montague recorded a match-high five blocks, including a pair of solo rejections.
After trailing by as many as five points (7-2) in the first set, MU scrapped back as a Montague kill gave the Herd its first lead at 17-16. Marshall closed out the set by taking 8 of the final 10 points, including three kills by Brown and a pair of service aces by Essence Clerkley, to take the opening sequence 25-28.
In a very similar fashion to Friday afternoon, MU took control of the match in the final two sets against BCU. The Herd allowed the Wildcats to score just 24 points in the final two frames en route to the team's second sweep of the season.
