Herd Volleyball Hosts Marshall Invitational for First Home Matches of 2023

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University volleyball team hosts its first home matches of the season as part of the Marshall Invitational beginning on Thursday. Akron, Coppin State, Morehead State and UNCG are also a part of the tournament.

PRE-MATCH NOTES

The Herd opened the season 2-1 at the Bash at the Beach last weekend, with a pair of sweeps of Bethune Cookman.
Peyton Neal had seven service aces in eight sets in the opening weekend with her .88 per set leading the Sun Belt.
Brynn Brown registered a team-high 74 assists, while Kylee Stokes had 26 kills.

ABOUT THE MOREHEAD STATE EAGLES

Morehead State began its season with three sweeps defeating Stonehill, Queens and USC Upstate.
M.E. Hargan and Amelia Nott each recorded 30 or more kills last weekend at 31 and 30, respectively.
MSU's 19.44 digs per set rank fifth in the country.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS

UNCG was swept twice by East Carolina and suffered a sweep to Georgia Southern in its opening three matches last weekend.
Mallory Meers had 70 assists (7.78) last weekend.

ABOUT THE ZIPS

Akron fell in all three of its opening weekend matches to Valparaiso, ULM and Eastern Illinois.
Vanessa Del Real is fourth in the Mid-American Conference with 52 digs.

ABOUT THE COPPIN STATE EAGLES

CSU went 2-1 in its opening weekend sweeping McNeese State and Jacksonville State and a 3-1 loss to Auburn.
TaKenya Stafford recorded double-doubles in kills and digs across all three matches and leads the team with 37 kills.
