Herd Women’s Soccer Hosts Cincinnati in Fans First Match Wednesday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall women's soccer team hosts Cincinnati in a "Fans First" match at Hoops Family Field Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. The Fans First game means free admission for all fans, a Marshall flag giveaway, free parking in the Kroger Lot across from the stadium and more. Wednesday's match will be the second of three preseason matches for Head Coach Michael Swan's side before its opener against Morehead State on Aug. 17.

"We had a great trip down to North Carolina," Coach Swan said. "We stuck to our plan and we will be better for it long-term. Everyone was able to get quality minutes in a game-like situation so our fitness levels will be higher going into Wednesday. Our focus still remains on August 17th against Morehead State, but this will be another platform to build on."

Marshall was picked ninth out of 14 in the Sun Belt Conference preseason poll. JMU and South Alabama were picked at the top of the league, tied with 179 points. Defending tournament champions Old Dominion were picked third with 177 points.

"You don't really know how it will all shake out at the end of the season but we have a much higher expectation than what the poll says," Swan said. "When we keep growing as a group we will reach that goal, no questions asked."
