Bilby finishes one shot off lead at 8-under for tournament
NASHPORT, Ohio – Marshall's Men's Golf team finished in a tie for fourth place at The Virtues Intercollegiate, which wrapped up play on Tuesday at The Virtues GolfClub in Nashport, Ohio.
Marshall junior Ryan Bilby finished just one shot out of first place, finishing at 8-under par for the tournament to also tie for fourth.
"We had a pretty good week overall, but we didn't finish as strong as we would have liked," Marshall Men's Golf Coach Matt Grobe said. "Ryan Bilby had a great week with his second top-4 finish in a row to start the year. Tyler had another consistent week and played solid, too."
Marshall tied with host Miami (Ohio) for fourth place at 10-under as a team. The Herd was just one shot back of James Madison and George Washington, who each ascended to 11-under at day's end.
The best rounds of the day for Marshall came from Tyler Jones and Clayton Thomas, who each shot Even-par 72s to lead the way.
Bilby, who was the Day One leader, shot a final round 74, along with teammate Joseph Kalaskey. Christian Boyd tallied a 75 to close out his tournament.
"Joseph continues to play well and made a lot of birdies this week," Grobe said. "Clayton and Christian had several good stretches this week, too. We have a quick turnaround before heading to Cleveland State so we will need to rest and practice to be ready to play strong there."
Marshall travels to the Tom Tontimonia Invitational, hosted by Cleveland State in Westlake, Ohio, on Oct. 1-2.
