Herd Volleyball Takes Down Georgia State Thursday Night

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Marshall University volleyball team (10-7, 2-1 Sun Belt) opened the weekend with a 3-1 victory (25-22, 20-25, 25-14, 25-21) on the road at Georgia State (3-11, 0-3 Sun Belt) Thursday night.
"Our resilience and focus really showed tonight," Herd volleyball head coach Ari Aganus said after the win. "We played as a full unit and stayed together from start to finish. Our first ball contact started out sloppy, but we were able to bounce back from their aggressive serves. Lots to clean up, but we're ready to get back at it tomorrow!"
Lydia Montague registered a season-high 16 kills with a .467 hitting percentage while Essence Clerkley compiled 12 kills on 22 attacks for a .545 hitting percentage. Brynn Brown recorded another double-double with 20 assists and 14 kills with Bella Thompson having a match-high 25 assists and Peyton Neal finishing with a game-high 20 digs.
After the first set was tied 1-1 early on, MU never let Georgia State back in the opening set. The Herd finished the first frame with a .270 hitting percentage as it took it 25-22.
The Panthers tied the match by taking the second set 25-20 with a .458 hitting percentage.
Marshall trailed just once the rest of the match. The third set was all 'Green and White' as it took it wire-to-wire, 25-14, with a team-best .273 hitting percentage and holding GSU to a -.056 hitting percentage.
The Panthers led 2-1 early in the fourth, but Marshall went on a 6-0 run with three Georgia State errors, a pair of blocks and a Sarah Wadsworth kill to take a 7-2 lead. The Herd cruised the rest of the way to a 25-21 victory in the fourth to seal the match.
