HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall's Women's Basketball team used a hot start and balanced attack to earn a 106-95 win over Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon at Hanner Fieldhouse.

With the win, Marshall moves to 15-5 overall and a perfect 9-0 in Sun Belt Conference play – the best conference start in Marshall Women's Basketball program history.

"I thought it was a really good game offensively – pretty offense – and I was happy on that side of the ball," Marshall Women's Basketball coach Kim Caldwell said. "We've got to keep taking it step-by-step, one game at a time and keep learning with each game. That's what we've been doing….We have to clean up some things because we have a big week next week."

The contest marked the first time in 28 years that Marshall reached the 100-point mark in a conference game – ironically, the last also coming against Georgia Southern on March 2, 1996 during the Southern Conference Tournament.

There were a pair of season-highs for Marshall's guard tandem of Breanna Campbell and Abby Beeman.

Campbell exploded for 29 points while adding five rebounds while Beeman added 28 points and nine assists in the win.

Beeman's five 3-pointers led Marshall to a season-best 16 3-pointers – 12 of which came in the first half as the Herd raced out to a 57-42 lead at halftime.

Aislynn Hayes added 19 points for the Herd while Sydni Scott also had 16 in the win.

The 9-0 start in conference play eclipses the old record of an 8-0 start, achieved by the 1988-89 team, which ended the season as co-Southern Conference champions.

The Herd has now won 12 of its last 13 games and has a pair of home games coming up at Cam Henderson Center next week - a 6 p.m. battle with App State on Jan. 31 and a 1 p.m. matchup against James Madison on Feb. 3.
