Ciccarelli Named SBC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – Marshall University Volleyball junior Beatrice Ciccarelli was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, as announced by the league office.

"Absolutely earned for Chicca. Day in and day out she has her head down wanting to get better," Herd Volleyball Head Coach Ari Aganus said about Ciccarelli. "Chicca is one of the most passionate and hardest working players I've come across as well as consistently wanting to add tools to her tool kit! I'm proud for her and our program for this recognition!"

The native of Bologna, Italy, led The Herd with 38.5 points, 29 kills, a .368 hitting percentage and 15 blocks, two solo, as the team captured a road sweep at ULM this weekend.

In a win Friday, Ciccarelli finished with 12 kills and 11 blocks across four sets. The junior followed up with a 17 kill, four block performance on Saturday to help Marshall seal the weekend sweep.

The Herd is back in action on Friday at the Cam Henderson Center as it hosts Georgia State in the first of two matches this weekend at 6 p.m.
