HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The sixth-ranked Marshall Men's Soccer team (9-1-5, 4-0-4 SBC) picked up a crucial point in a 1-1 draw on Friday in Lexington, Kentucky against the Kentucky Wildcats (4-5-6, 3-2-3 SBC).

The draw along with a 1-0 win by Georgia State at James Madison and a 4-0 triumph by UCF over South Carolina has guaranteed The Herd a top two seed in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament and the right to host the quarter and semifinal rounds.

"I thought we battled really well tonight," Herd Men's Soccer Head Coach Chris Grassie said. "Kentucky away in a rivalry game is always tough, but I thought we were unlucky not to win it. Very proud of the guys. This sets up a great game on Tuesday. If we win at home, we win the championship, you can't ask for better chance than that when trying to win trophies. If we show the same heart again on Tuesday, I feel good about our chances."

Starting goalkeeper Dan Rose picked up a pair of early saves to keep the Wildcats off the board in the 10th and 20th minutes.

Then in the 23rd, The Herd lined up for a free kick. Taimu Okiyoshi found Aleksandar Vukovic at the far post as headed it back into the six-yard box. The ball found the foot of Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos, who buried it into the back of the net at the 23:01 mark. It was his team-leading ninth of the season and his eighth in his last nine matches.

Rose made another big save in the 51st on the first shot on goal in the second half by Logan Dorsey.

In the 68th, Dorsey equalized the contest 1-1 for Kentucky on an assist from Josh Gordon.

Rose helped clinch the crucial road point for Marshall with a save on the final shot on goal of the contest at the 78:36 mark.

Rai Pinto and Rodrigues dos Santos each had three shots with two on goal by Rodrigues dos Santos.
