Marshall to host seventh-seeded ODU in quarterfinals of SBC

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The eighth-ranked Marshall Men's Soccer team (9-1-6, 4-0-5 SBC) closed out the regular season with a scoreless draw at home to the No. 10 West Virginia Mountaineers (10-1-6, 5-0-4 SBC) Tuesday night at Hoops Family Field.
Goalkeeper Dan Rose registered his third clean sheet of the season in the match with a pair of saves.
We've been looking for that signature performance of the season, and unfortunately tonight, that was it. That was the best performance we've had all season," Herd Men's Soccer Head Coach Chris Grassie said.
Pablo Simon had the first chance of the contest for MU seeing his shot saved by Mountaineer keeper Marc Bonnaire in the 19th minute. Then at the 27:34 mark, Tarik Pannholzer launched a shot just outside the 18-yard box that hit the crossbar.
Rose stepped up to the task making both of his saves in the final five minutes of first half to keep match scoreless heading into halftime.
The Herd saw a couple of opportunities just miss as Pannholzer and Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos saw shots got just wide of the net in the 49th and 60th minutes, respectively.
Bonnaire stopped a shot by Theo Godard at the 73:57 mark and a last second effort by Loic Sany Kong.

Marshall enters the Sun Belt Conference Tournament as the two seed and will host the seventh-seeded Old Dominion Monarchs at 3 p.m. on Sunday in the quarterfinals at Hoops Family Field.
