Herd QB totaled 350 yards, 3 TDs with no turnovers in 42-35 win over ODU

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall quarterback Braylon Braxton was named Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday following his performance in the Thundering Herd's 42-35 win over Old Dominion over the weekend.

Braxton totaled 350 yards and accounted for three touchdowns while leading the Herd to another turnover-free performance en route to the team's fifth straight win.

It is the second time this season that Braxton has been named as the Sun Belt Conference's Offensive Player of the Week, joining JMU quarterback Alonza Barnett III and Texas State quarterback Jordan McCloud as the only players to win multiple SBC Offensive Player of the Week awards this season.

Through the air, Braxton was 13 of 24 for 210 yards and three touchdowns through the air while rushing for another 140 yards on 18 carries in the win.

The 140-yard rushing performance by Braxton ties for sixth in Marshall history for single-game rushing yards by a Marshall quarterback.

Braxton saved some of his best work for the game's late stages, engineering a game-winning touchdown drive while using his arms and his legs to move the Herd down-field.

The redshirt junior from Frisco, Texas, completed a pair of 18-yard passes to Christian Fitzpatrick and Carl Chester while adding runs of 11 and 13 yards that led to Ethan Payne's 1-yard TD plunge that provided the winning margin.

Ironically, Saturday's rushing effort was Braxton's second 140-yard rushing performance of the season – the other coming in the Herd's 52-37 win over App State on Oct. 5 in the first start of his Marshall career.

That five-touchdown performance resulted in Braxton's first SBC Offensive Player of the Week award this season.

Braxton is one of only three players in the Sun Belt to have multiple 140-yard rushing efforts this season, joining ULM running back Ahmad Hardy and Texas State running back Ismail Mahdi. Braxton is the lone quarterback of the group.

Braxton has led Marshall to first-place in the SBC East Division heading into this weekend's regular season finale at James Madison, which is an 8 p.m. kickoff on ESPNU.
