Marshall DE Mike Green Earns SBC Player of The Week Honors

Herd standout DE also named Reese’s Senior Bowl Defensive Player of Week, PFF Group of Five Team of Week
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall defensive lineman Mike Green was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, the SBC announced.
Green finished with 9 tackles (4 solo), including 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks with a forced fumble in the Herd's 28-23 win over ULM on Saturday.
In addition to the SBC honor, Green was also named as the Reese's Senior Bowl Defensive Player of the Week and Pro Football Focus' Group of Five Team of the Week, which was announced Monday morning.
One of the most impressive things about Green's totals on Saturday was that Green registered 2.0 sacks despite ULM dropping back to throw on only 18 occasions in the contest.
Green's performance continues a stellar year in which he has been one of the most dominant defensive performers in FBS.
In 2024, Green currently has 55 tackles which is tied for first among all FBS defensive linemen while also having 14.5 tackles for loss (t-2nd in FBS) and 10.0 sacks (3rd in FBS).
Green has registered a tackle for loss in every single game and has recorded a sack in six of eight contests this season.
Green's designation as SBC Defensive Player of the Week marks the fifth time this season the Herd has had a player named as SBC Player of the Week and the fourth time in five weeks where the Herd has played that they have earned weekly honors.
Players earning that SBC distinction in 2024 include defensive back J.J. Roberts (Sept. 30), quarterback Braylon Braxton (Oct. 7), running back A.J. Turner (Oct. 21), kicker Rece Verhoff (Oct. 21) and, now, Green (Nov. 4).
Marshall heads to Southern Miss for a 3 p.m. contest against the Golden Eagles at M.M. Roberts Stadium on Saturday before returning home next week for its final regular season home game of 2024 at 1 p.m. on Nov. 16 against Coastal Carolina.
