CONWAY, S.C. – Marshall's Men's Basketball team nearly rallied from a double-digit deficit, but fell just short in a 74-67 loss to Coastal Carolina on Saturday afternoon at the HTC Center in Conway, S.C.
With the loss, Marshall falls to 12-15 overall and 7-7 in Sun Belt Conference action.
"We had 20 more shots (than Coastal), but we're just not making shots," Marshall Men's Basketball coach Dan D'Antoni said. "We have to make them. They shot the ball really well."
Trailing by 13 in the second half, Marshall used a 14-2 run, highlighted by a steal and subsequent layup from Kevon Voyles to cut that deficit to one with 4:10 left.
The Herd couldn't get over the hump, though, as Coastal Carolina escaped with the win.
Voyles led Marshall with 15 points while adding six assists. The Herd also got a big effort from Wyatt Fricks, who had 14 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
In the first half, Marshall jumped out to a double-digit lead early after getting hot from the outside. Fricks' 3-pointer gave Marshall an 18-8 lead less than eight minutes into the game. That 3-pointer capped a 15-0 run for the Herd.
However, the Chanticleers found their range from deep as well and came back to take a 33-31 lead into the locker room.
In addition to Voyles and Fricks, Marshall got 14 points from Kamdyn Curfman, who hit three 3-pointers in the contest.
Marshall returns to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday when the Herd hosts James Madison at Cam Henderson Center.
