NORFOLK, Va. – Marshall's women's basketball team won its 13th Sun Belt Conference game in an 89-75 win over Old Dominion. The Herd moves to 19-6 overall (13-1 SBC) while ODU drops to 18-7 (9-5 SBC).
Coach Kim Caldwell's team has clinched a double-bye in next month's SBC Women's Basketball Championship in Pensacola.
"Happy to get out of there with a win," Coach Kim Caldwell said. "That is a really good team [ODU], they are playing really well right now in a very tough environment. That is one where we are glad to check that box and keep moving."
Sophomore Meredith Maier led the team with 16 points, 10 of which came in the second half. The final 20 minutes saw Caldwell's team outscore the hosts by a dozen - with a 20-point advantage in the third quarter.
"[Meredith] was big, she got frustrated early but didn't blink and she had a great second half for us as she usually does. She helps us spread people out. As someone with her size that can do what she does, it's really special to see at this level."

The Herd forced 24 turnovers and scored 33 points off those takeaways.
Marshall took a 33-31 lead into the locker room after forcing Old Dominion into 16 first-half turnovers.
MU will continue its road trip at Texas State on Wednesday, Feb. 21. Tip is at 8 p.m. eastern, 7 p.m. San Marcos time.
