HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University Men's Basketball (12-17, 7-9 Sun Belt) dropped its home finale on Senior Day, 65-58, Saturday evening against the App State Mountaineers (24-5, 14-2 Sun Belt).
The Herd honored graduate assistant Evan Beretta, Kevon Voyles, Marko Sarenac and Kamdyn Curfman in a pregame ceremony.
"We didn't shoot the ball very well," Herd men's basketball head coach Dan D'Antoni said. "I thought we played hard enough. That's the good thing. We competed. Anytime you can shoot 32 (percent from the field) and 13 (percent from three) against the best team in the league, and one of the most offensively efficient teams in the country and get beat by seven points, you played well enough, but you have to shoot the basketball."
Curfman and Voyles each shined tallying 19 points each in the contest, both making eight shots from the field.
On the boards, Nate Martin followed a career-high 16 rebounds on Wednesday with a game-high 14 on Saturday against App State.
The Herd led for the majority of the first 20 minutes of play as it led 29-23 at halftime. MU held the Mountaineers to just 29 percent (9-for-31) from the field in the first half.
The two sides played a close contest in the second half, but a late 9-0 run by the visitors with 3:05 left put The Herd at a 12-point disadvantage, 59-47, that they just couldn't overcome.
Marshall won the offensive glass 18-13 and was even 46-46 in the rebounding battle.
